Climbing at Burnside - Fri 20th Nov

posted 21 Nov 2009, 08:33 by Ben Hudson

Last night saw a group of 12 Explorers and leaders from Tynemouth attend the first planned visit to Burnside Business and Enterprise College, Wallsend to have a go on their Indoor Climbing Wall.

Under the careful eye of Swanny supervising at ground level, the Explorers went through the basic safety procedures, did some warm up exercises and moved on to a bit of bouldering along the bottom if the wall.

Next it was on with the climbing harnesses to learn how to tie yourself onto the rope properly and how to use the belay equipment.

After that we were onto the wall. Working in pairs taking it in turns to climb whilst the other belayed from the ground. By the end of the night, everyone was tired having had a good work out but having had an excellent time!

Thanks to Tadge and his team of assistants for helping us 'learn the ropes'.

The next planned climbing session is Friday 11th December from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. Please visit the climbing page for more information and to sign up for the next session.

Please Note - If you enjoyed the last session, please sign up ASAP - we can only really accomodate around 16 people per session at the moment. Thanks!
